As our neighbors to the North begin to contemplate their Winter Re-Location, it’s a great time to consider becoming a LE/AD’er.
The Lakes Education Action Drive (LE/AD) can only achieve its goals with the assistance of its generous community members. Without our members, programs and events designed to bring awareness to our most valuable resources would not be possible. LE/AD’s mission is simple, “create an awareness and appreciation of our lakes and watersheds and to promote their protection and wise use”.
Since the success of our organization relies on the generosity of our members, I write to ask you to consider becoming a LE/AD’er. Membership is simple, click the link below and go to our webpage, scroll to the bottom and join via PayPal. Or, print the Membership Form, write a check and mail it back. I know you value Florida’s more than 7,700 freshwater lakes, with 550 of them located right here in Polk County. So, I can assure you, your precious dollars will be put to good use and here are just a few examples of how LE/AD spends your money:
LAKESIDE DISPLAY SIGNS: In cooperation with partnering organizations, LE/AD places educational signs in local nature parks and near lakeshores to provide lakeside education and outreach in the community. These signs include information about wildlife and fish species found locally, the importance of aquatic vegetation, water quality, how the public can help keep our waters clean, and more.
STORMWATER PLAQUES: LE/AD has aluminum plaques placed on storm drains to help explain to people that stormwater drains directly to water bodies, so only stormwater is to go down the storm drains.
ALLIGATOR SIGNS: LE/AD also has aluminum alligator signs warning about the dangers of alligators. These signs are great for lakes and ponds.
SPECIAL EVENTS: Lakes Appreciation Month, Lakes Clean-Up Events, Cardboard Boat Challenges, Lakes Festivals, Water Conferences, Speakers Bureau, and much more.
